Day 01: 🇵🇹Lisbon

Day 02: 🇵🇹Lisbon

Lisbon Sightseeing Tour:

 

Morning: Embark on a comprehensive 2-hour guided tour of Lisbon, often called the City of Seven Hills. Discover the capital’s unique charm, characterized by its narrow streets, decorative tiles, nostalgic “Saudade” atmosphere, and distinct Atlantic light.

 

Key highlights include:

  • Edward VII Park (Parque Eduardo VII)
  • Baixa Pombalina district (Baixa de Lisboa), featuring Marquis of Pombal Square (Marquês De Pombal) and Rossio Square (Praça do Rossio).
  • São Jorge Castle –  Castelo de São Jorge (view from afar).
  • Historic Alfama and Estrela neighborhoods
  • Basilica of Estrela
  • Iconic monuments: Monument to the Discoveries, Belém Tower, and the Jerónimos Monastery.

 

The tour concludes in central Lisbon, leaving the afternoon free for personal exploration. Consider these suggestions:

We depart from Lisbon in the morning, journeying through the picturesque Alentejo region. By midday, we reach Estremoz, a quaint town boasting a medieval fortress, cobbled streets, and an authentic Portuguese ambiance. There’s time for a quick coffee break before we leave.

 

Crossing into Spain, our route takes us through Extremadura’s distinctive dehesa landscape. We arrived in Cáceres in the afternoon (Portuguese time). Here, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy lunch and explore the historic center, renowned as one of the world’s finest examples of preserved medieval and Renaissance urban planning.

 

In the evening, we bid farewell to Cáceres. Our final destination, Madrid, is reached at night. Upon arrival, we head to the vibrant Plaza Mayor, a hub of culinary delights and city life. For those on the half-board plan, dinner is provided here.

Day 04: 🇪🇸Madrid

The day starts early in the morning with a comprehensive city tour of Madrid, lasting approximately two and a half hours. Please note that the exact route may vary depending on traffic and seasonal factors.

 

The tour showcases Madrid’s key landmarks, including:

  • Puerta de Alcalá

  • Serrano Street (Calle de Serrano) 
  • Paseo de la Castellana 
  • Plaza de Colón 
  • Paseo del Prado 
  • Prado Museum – exterior (Museo Nacional del Prado).

Day 05: 🇪🇸Madrid, 🇪🇸Zaragoza, 🇪🇸Poblet, 🇪🇸Barcelona

The journey begins with an early morning departure from Madrid, including a short break en route. By midday, we reach Zaragoza, where our guide offers a brief introduction to the city. You’ll have time to explore the area around the Plaza of Our Lady of the Pillar, visit the famous Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, and enjoy lunch at your leisure.

 

In the afternoon, we continue our travels, making a stop at the Santa María de Poblet Monastery. This well-preserved medieval monastery, nestled within its protective walls in a stunning landscape, is a must-see attraction. Your entry ticket is included in the tour.

 

After exploring the monastery, we resume our journey, passing through the fertile farmlands of central Catalonia. As evening approaches, we arrive at our final destination, the vibrant city of Barcelona.

Day 06: 🇪🇸Barcelona, 🇪🇸Girona

The day begins with a comprehensive tour of Barcelona after breakfast. Led by our guide or a local expert, this excursion showcases the city’s rich cultural heritage and architectural wonders. Barcelona, a Mediterranean gem, is renowned for its Gaudí-designed landmarks, modernist architecture, vibrant Ramblas, and its legacy as a host of World Expos and the Olympics.

 

Our tour encompasses key attractions such as:

  • Columbus Monument
  • Hotel Catalonia Square
  • Paseo de Gracia 
  • Diagonal Avenue
  • The iconic Sagrada Familia (with a brief stop for photos)
  • Montjuïc Hill and its Olympic facilities
  • Spain Square (Plaça d’Espanya)

 

The tour concludes in the Ramblas area, allowing you to explore the historic Gothic Quarter at your own pace. Later, we depart Barcelona and head north through Catalonia. Our destination is Girona, a charming small city known for its beautifully preserved historic center. The Girona Cathedral, with its impressive staircase, is a particular highlight. As evening falls, you’ll find the city beautifully illuminated and dotted with cozy restaurants.

 

Please note: If our accommodations are not centrally located, you’ll have time to explore Girona’s evening ambiance before we transfer to the hotel.

Day 07: 🇪🇸Girona, 🇫🇷Arles, 🇫🇷Carrières de Lumières, 🇫🇷Chambéry

Our journey begins early in the morning as we depart Girona, crossing into France and traversing the picturesque Provence region. By midday, we arrived in Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This charming town boasts an impressively preserved Roman Theatre of Arles, the finest in France, alongside the Saint-Trophime Primatial Catholic Church. Arles is also famed for its association with Vincent van Gogh, who captured the unique light of southern France during his most prolific period here. You’ll have time to explore and enjoy lunch at your leisure.

 

In the early afternoon, we leave Arles, traveling through the gentle Provençal countryside. Our next stop is the nearby Carrieres de Lumières or Quarries of Light. This unique attraction offers an immersive art experience, projecting works of iconic painters onto the walls of ancient quarries. The entrance fee is included in your tour.

 

Following this visual feast, we continue our journey northward, reaching Chambéry in the evening, where we’ll settle in for the night.

 

Please note: In cases where tickets for Carrieres de Lumières are unavailable due to high demand or schedule changes, we’ll arrange an alternative visit to the Pont du Gard (Roman aqueduct bridge), another impressive testament to the region’s rich history.

 

This itinerary offers a blend of historical landmarks, artistic experiences, and scenic travels through southern France.

Day 08: 🇫🇷Chambéry, 🇨🇭Geneva, 🇨🇭Gruyères, 🇨🇭Chillon, 🇨🇭Leysin

Our day begins with an early morning stroll through Chambery, the charming capital of Savoy. This medieval-style city boasts a beautiful historic center and an impressive castle.

 

We then depart for Switzerland, reaching Geneva by mid-morning. As the hub of French-speaking Switzerland, Geneva is home to numerous international organizations, including the European UN headquarters. Our guided tour includes visits to the Palace of Nations (Palais des Nations), the picturesque English Garden (Jardin Anglais) with its iconic flower clock, and a view of the Jet d’Eau, Europe’s tallest fountain.

 

Leaving Geneva, we follow the shoreline of Lake Geneva through UNESCO-listed vineyard landscapes. Our next stop is the quaint walled village of Gruyères, famous for its cheese production. Here, you’ll have free time to explore and enjoy lunch. Nearby, we’ll visit the Cailler chocolate factory (Maison Cailler), one of Switzerland’s premier chocolate makers, where you’ll enjoy a sweet tasting.

 

In the afternoon, we continue through the stunning Swiss countryside to Chillon Castle, a medieval fortress dramatically situated on Lake Geneva. After touring the castle, we journey through picturesque mountain villages known for their traditional wooden architecture.

 

Our day concludes in Leysin, a charming resort town offering breathtaking Rhone Valley and Mont Blanc views. Known for winter sports and summer hiking, it’s an ideal spot to end our day. Dinner is included in our accommodation.

 

Please note that, depending on availability, we may occasionally stay in a different Alpine town, typically Martigny.

Day 09: 🇨🇭Leysin, 🇨🇭Glacier 3000, 🇨🇭Interlaken, 🇨🇭Lucerne, 🇨🇭Zürich

We begin our day early, departing from Leysin and journeying through stunning alpine scenery where snow and ice persist year-round. Our first adventure is the Col du Pillon cable car ride to Glacier 3000, one of Switzerland’s most breathtaking locations. At this high-altitude station, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Alps. For thrill-seekers, there’s a suspension bridge connecting two mountain peaks, an Ice Cathedral to explore, and a Fun Park for entertainment.

 

Mid-morning sees us descending and traveling to Interlaken, passing through picturesque mountain and lake landscapes. Interlaken, nestled between two lakes and surrounded by impressive mountains, offers a perfect spot for a lunch break.

 

In the afternoon, we continued to Lucerne, widely regarded as one of Switzerland’s most beautiful cities. Here, you’ll have time to wander across its famous wooden bridges that span the lake, immersing yourself in the city’s charming atmosphere.

 

Our day concludes in Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city and economic powerhouse. Before checking into our hotel, we’ll take a brief walking tour of the city center, giving you a taste of this vibrant metropolis.

 

This itinerary offers a diverse mix of natural wonders, from glacial heights to lakeside towns, concluding in Switzerland’s urban heart. It showcases the country’s varied landscapes and cultural offerings in a single, action-packed day.

Day 10: 🇨🇭Zürich
