🇲🇽 Day 02: Ciudad de México

Plaza de las Tres Culturas, Ciudad de México, México

Early morning – We’re set for an exciting day exploring Mexico City. Our comprehensive tour begins with a drive through the city’s highlights, including the iconic Plaza of Three Cultures (Plaza de las Tres Culturas), the historic city center featuring the grand Zócalo, also known as Plaza de la Constitución, and the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, and the ancient Aztec Templo Mayor Museum. We’ll also take in the lush Bosque de Chapultepec, the elegant Paseo de la Reforma, and other major streets of this crowded metropolis. Our journey culminates at the revered Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, America’s most-visited Catholic shrine, where you’ll see both the historic 18th-century basilica and its modern counterpart.

Afternoon – We’ll venture to the charming XOCHIMILCO district, famed for its network of canals and floating gardens. Here, you’ll enjoy a leisurely ride on a colorful ‘trajinera’ boat, a typical México City experience.

Early evening – We return to the hotel for some relaxation.

Night – As darkness falls, we’ll head to the lively Plaza Garibaldi, the beating heart of Mexico City’s nightlife. This vibrant area is packed with bars and eateries serving up delicious tacos and tequila, all to the soundtrack of traditional Mariachi music. We’ll finish the evening with dinner (included as part of the tour) at an authentic local restaurant, where you’ll have the chance to toast with tequila and enjoy live Mariachi performances.

🇲🇽 Day 03: Ciudad de México, Morelia, Pátzcuaro

Catedral de Morelia, México

As dawn breaks, we bid farewell to Mexico City and embark on our journey. Our route takes us through the verdant landscapes of Michoacán state, a feast for the eyes.

By midday, we reach MORELIA, the jewel in Michoacán’s crown. This UNESCO World Heritage city captivates with its stunning cathedral (Catedral de Morelia), bustling main square (Plaza de Armas), and iconic aqueduct (Acueducto de Morelia). You’ll have leisure time exploring the historic center and savoring a local lunch.

As the afternoon progresses, we leave the charms of Morelia behind and continue our adventure.

Our day culminates in the enchanting colonial town of PATZCUARO. Here, you’ll be struck by the beauty of the Basilica of Our Lady of Health (Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Salud) and intrigued by the House of Eleven Patios (Casa de los Once Patios), now a thriving artisan market. We’ll spend the night in this designated Magical Town, immersing ourselves in its unique atmosphere.

🇲🇽 Day 04: Pátzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, Chapala, San Pedro Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara

Lake Chapala, México

Morning: We bid farewell to Pátzcuaro and set our sights on Jalisco state. Our journey takes us to Lake Chapala, Mexico’s largest natural lake, amidst picturesque mountains.

Mid-morning: We arrive in TZINTZUNTZAN, a historical gem on the shores of Lake Pátzcuaro. Once the capital of the Purépecha Empire, this town boasts the Franciscan Convent of Santa Ana (Ex Convento de Santa Ana), home to nearly 500-year-old olive trees. Across from the convent, we’ll explore the Yácatas – ruined Purépecha pyramids that whisper tales of a bygone era.

Early afternoon: Our next stop is CHAPALA, a charming lakeside resort town. Here, you’ll have time to stroll along the waterfront and enjoy a leisurely lunch, soaking in the relaxed atmosphere.

Mid-afternoon: Leaving Chapala behind, we make ourgoUEPAQUE, a delightful magical town renowned for its vibrant streets with shops and artisan workshops. You’ll have time to wander and perhaps pick up some unique souvenirs.

Evening: As the day winds down, we reach GUADALAJARA, Jalisco’s capital, and Mexico’s second-largest city. Known as the birthplace of mariachi and tequila, Guadalajara promises a lively introduction. After checking into our hotel, you can take an evening stroll and get your first taste of this dynamic city.

🇲🇽 Day 05: Guadalajara, Tequila, Guadalajara

Guadalajara Cathedral, México

Our day begins with an immersive tour of Guadalajara, a city that beautifully blends modern urban life with rich colonial heritage. We’ll explore its historic heart, taking in the grandeur of the Guadalajara Cathedral, the bustle of the market, and the charm of Plaza Tapatía. A highlight of our morning is a visit to the Hospicio Cabañas, a UNESCO World Heritage site that stands as a testament to the region’s architectural and cultural legacy.

As noon approaches, we bid a temporary farewell to Guadalajara and set our sights on the town of Tequila, the birthplace of Mexico’s iconic spirit. Here, we’ll delve into tequila production at the renowned MUNDO CUERVO distillery (Fábrica La Rojeña). Our visit includes a guided tour and the opportunity to sample this celebrated beverage. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore the quaint streets of Tequila and enjoy a local lunch.

Please note: Due to the narrow streets of Tequila’s center, we’ll need to cover the last stretch on foot, which is about a 20-minute walk from where our bus can park.

Also, be aware that during busy periods, our distillery tour might be scheduled for the morning, reversing our day’s itinerary without omitting any activities.

In the late afternoon, we return to Guadalajara, arriving with plenty of time for you to relax or continue exploring the city at your own pace.

🇲🇽 Day 06: Guadalajara, Ciudad de México

Traditional Mexican Houses in Ciudad de México, México

We start our day with breakfast before bidding farewell to Guadalajara. Our return journey to Mexico City begins at the local bus station, where we board a comfortable, high-end coach for our cross-country trip.

The journey, which lasts approximately six and a half hours, offers a chance to relax and take in the changing landscapes of central Mexico. As the afternoon progresses, we reach the busy metropolis of Mexico City, typically arriving around 4 PM.

Upon arrival, we’ll smoothly transition from the coach to our waiting transfer, which will transfer us to our hotel in the city. Once at the hotel, we’ll assist you with check-in, ensuring you’re comfortably settled for your stay in the capital.

This travel day, while long, bridges the cultural experiences of Guadalajara with the vibrant energy of Mexico City, setting the stage for further explorations or a restful evening, depending on your preferences.

🇲🇽 Day 07: Ciudad de México

The Angel of Independence, Ciudad de México, México
