Begin your day with leisure time, allowing you to explore Cusco at your own pace. As the afternoon arrives, immerse yourself in a guided journey through this captivating former Inca capital. Your adventure commences at the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo of Guzmán, an architectural marvel built atop the revered Inca Coricancha temple. Imagine the splendor of its past, with walls once adorned in gold and emblazoned with golden nature motifs.
Next, marvel at the Cusco Cathedral, the crowning jewel of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor de Cusco). Your path then leads to the Cusco highlands, home to the formidable Sacsayhuamán (Saqsaywaman) fortress. From its imposing ramparts, drink in the breathtaking panorama of Cusco below.
The tour continues to Qenqo (Q’enco Archaeological Complex), a sacred Inca site believed to have hosted important agricultural rituals. Your expedition concludes at Puca Pucará (Puka Pukara Archaeological Complex), or ‘Red Fortress’ in Quechua. Upon reaching Aguas Calientes, a short bus ascent delivers you to the gates of Machu Picchu, the fabled ‘Lost City of the Incas.’ This architectural marvel believed to be Inca Pachacutec’s 15th-century retreat, stood hidden for centuries after the Spanish conquest. While other Inca settlements succumbed to destruction, Machu Picchu found sanctuary beneath the protective embrace of encroaching jungle foliage.
Your expert guide will unveil the citadel’s mysteries, leading you through its iconic features.
