Panama City Casco Antiguo originated after Morgan’s attack to prevent more pirates from destroying the city.

The ruins of Panamá Viejo are now an archaeological site that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The first cathedral of the American Pacific coast was built in Panamá Viejo and is called Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Asunción.
