Located approximately 70 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City (about 1.5 hours by car), the tunnels were constructed in 1948 by the Viet Minh to combat the French colonial forces. This underground network included living quarters, kitchens, storage areas, armories, hospitals, and command centers. During the war against the United States, Cu Chi became a major battlefield and was heavily bombed.
